IONATION 2026: Indonesia’s Largest Workout & Wellness Festival Draws 9,000+ Participants in a Single Day
On August 29, 2026, the Nusantara International Convention Exhibition (NICE) in Pantai Indah Kapuk 2 didn’t just host an event; it became a 9,000-to-10,000-person pulse of collective energy. Now in its seventh year, IONATION 2026 has officially transcended the boundaries of a “workout day” to become a sprawling landscape of human potential. Walking through the halls of NICE, one could feel the sheer scale of the movement—a sea of participants vibrating with the kind of intensity usually reserved for major music festivals.
But what is it about this specific gathering that compels thousands to bypass their local boutique gyms for a massive convention hall? IONATION 2026 proved that the modern appetite for health has evolved. It is no longer just about the isolated sweat of a standard gym session; it is about a holistic, high-octane lifestyle that merges community, performance, and total-body wisdom.
A New Chapter: The ION WATER Fitness Race
This year’s edition introduced an exciting new addition—the ION WATER Fitness Race, a hybrid training concept that combines running with functional workouts. Drawing inspiration from the globally popular HYROX format, the race was divided into 8 competition categories and challenged participants’ endurance and strength simultaneously. The full-day event saw participation from diverse communities, coaches, gyms, and professional HYROX athletes from cities across Indonesia.
The race also featured the Clash of The Gym exhibition, bringing together 27 gyms from Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Semarang in a spirited competition. Notably, several ION WATER athletes—including Johnny Tieu (Performance Coach and one of Asia’s top-ranked HYROX athletes), Standy Tjandra, and Gladys Fabiola (HYROX National Record Holder)—competed alongside representatives from the participating gyms.

Empowering Women’s Health
A significant highlight of IONATION 2026 was its focus on women’s health at every stage of life. With 60% of participants being women, the event provided a platform for women to express themselves, build confidence, and prioritize their well-being.
Puspita Winawati (Wina), Marketing Director of PT Amerta Indah Otsuka, explained: “ION WATER aligns with Otsuka’s philosophy of creating products for a healthier world and strengthening Indonesia’s fitness ecosystem. Not only does it provide a platform to try various types of workouts, but it also aims to contribute to better women’s health at every stage of life through the Women’s Health activities on offer.”
The event also received strong support from the government. Veronica Tan, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia, participated in a yoga class and shared her enthusiasm: “I appreciate the growth of communities focused on fitness and wellness that support one another, especially for women—because women have the right to their own lives and deserve a space to express themselves and build self-confidence. I believe that creating space for these communities requires collaboration among all parties, including the public, the private sector, and the government.” — Veronica Tan, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection.
Brand Ambassadors Share Their Experience
Jennifer Bachdim, ION WATER Brand Ambassador, reflected on the event’s growth: “IONATION always brings something new every year. The fitness race alone has grown from around 200 participants to more than 2,000 this year. It’s amazing to see ION WATER create a space where moms can have some ‘me-time’ while the kids have a special area to play.”
Amanda Manopo, who attended for the first time, highlighted the event’s inclusivity: “This is my first time participating in IONATION, and it’s a special moment because ION WATER has been with me throughout my pregnancy, breastfeeding, and recovery. The event itself is incredibly comprehensive—there’s a fitness race, Pilates, yoga, a kids’ area, and even physical therapy.”
A Growing Movement: #MotIONUnitesUs
Johnny Tieu, appointed as this year’s race director for the ION WATER Fitness Race, emphasized the growing appeal of hybrid fitness: “Hybrid races have become a modern lifestyle phenomenon favored by people from all walks of life—men, women, adults, and even teenagers. The Fitness Race challenges participants in terms of endurance and functional workouts in the spirit of togetherness, in line with the tagline ‘MotIONUnitesUs.'”
The event drew participants not only from Jakarta but also from Surabaya, Semarang, Bandung, Tangerang, and Bekasi—and even international attendees from Singapore, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Looking Ahead
With its seventh edition now complete, IONATION continues to demonstrate the power of community, fitness, and wellness. IONATION 2026 has successfully rewritten the blueprint for health festivals in the region. By merging high-stakes hybrid competition with deep-dive wellness education and a commitment to inclusivity, it has set a new benchmark for the Indonesian healthy lifestyle. The festival reminds us that true wellness is not a solo pursuit but a collective movement fueled by community and comprehensive support.
IONATION 2026 was fully supported by the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia, along with partners including LAICA, Indomaret, MSIG Indonesia, FIT HUB, Celebrity Fitness, Fitness First, Empire Fit Club, NICE, Bluebird Group, Decathlon, Hermina PIK 2 Hospital, Garmin, Guardian, and many others.
