Fueling a Fitness Revolution: Inside the ION WATER x AirAsia HYROX Jakarta Partnership

Jakarta’s fitness scene is gearing up for a major leap forward. PT Amerta Indah Otsuka, through its leading low-calorie ion drink ION WATER, has joined forces with HYROX Indonesia as the Official Hydration Partner of AirAsia HYROX Jakarta, set for June 27–28, 2026, at the Nusantara International Convention Center, Pantai Indah Kapuk 2. More than a branding play, the collaboration positions hydration science and athlete support at the heart of a rapidly expanding training culture in Indonesia.
Why This Partnership Matters
- A catalyst for participation: With Indonesia’s sports participation rate at just 26%, far below Vietnam’s 63%, the event is designed to invite newcomers into fitness while challenging seasoned athletes.
- A bridge between sectors: The partnership exemplifies how brands, event organizers, and public institutions can co-create a sustainable fitness ecosystem—spanning education, product innovation, and athlete development.
- Economic and social tailwinds: AirAsia HYROX Jakarta is projected to draw approximately 4,000 international visitors, amplifying sport tourism and local economic activity while cultivating a culture of active living.
At Thursday’s (June 4th) press conference at Plataran Kinandari Jakarta, key stakeholders underscored the collaboration’s broader mandate. Dr. Sri Wahyuni S.T., M.Sc., Deputy for Sports Cultivation at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, lauded ION WATER’s role in uniting industry players to strengthen public health outcomes. “Strategic partnerships like this act as a bridge between the industry, brands, and sports stakeholders to build a sustainable healthy lifestyle ecosystem,” she said. She emphasized that beyond tourism benefits, the true goal is to foster a healthy, competitive environment that can surface new Indonesian fitness talents for the global stage.
Otsuka’s Ecosystem Approach
For PT Amerta Indah Otsuka, the move extends a long-term mission. “In line with our corporate philosophy, ‘Otsuka-people creating new products for better health worldwide,’ we remain dedicated to creating innovative products that help people enjoy healthier, more active lives,” said Puspita Winawati, Marketing Director of PT Amerta Indah Otsuka. Through ION WATER, the company is deploying a holistic support model: the right hydration solutions, continuous education for coaches and athletes, and active involvement in athlete preparation to seed a durable HYROX ecosystem in Indonesia.
The Global Hybrid Race Arrives
HYROX has quickly evolved into a global fitness phenomenon, blending endurance running with functional strength work. Each competitor completes eight rounds of a 1-kilometer run followed by a functional station—an accessible yet rigorous format that tests full-body performance. According to William Petty, Regional Events Manager SEA for HYROX APAC, Jakarta’s edition has already set a regional benchmark as the Asia-Pacific debut with the highest number of registered participants—more than 11,000—signaling the city’s surging appetite for structured, competitive fitness.
Hydration as Performance Infrastructure
ION WATER’s role goes beyond sampling booths. As the Official Hydration Partner, the brand plans to support athletes across the race weekend with targeted hydration access and guidance, aligning with best practices for electrolyte balance and recovery. The emphasis reflects a core belief: when hydration is reliable and evidence-informed, athletes can focus on pacing, technique, and consistency—key variables in an eight-stage hybrid race where marginal gains add up.
Momentum Beyond June: IONATION 2026
The collaboration is designed to extend past race day. PT Amerta Indah Otsuka also announced the return of IONATION 2026 on August 29, the country’s largest single-day workout and wellness festival. The program will feature a broad menu of sessions culminating in a Fitness Race Competition—a practical “next step” for those inspired by HYROX to continue training toward the hybrid race format. “Fitness Race competition can be a simulation for your next hybrid race,” said Puspita. “It will also help to continuously build the atmosphere and to inspire actively for better health.”
What to Watch
- Participation milestones: Will Jakarta’s record-setting registrations convert into sustained community training groups and club ecosystems?
- Athlete pipelines: Look for youth and community programs that link HYROX-style training with school and local sport initiatives.
- Tourism and local impact: Track visitor inflows and small business upticks around Pantai Indah Kapuk 2 across race weekend.
- Hydration innovation: Expect product education, on-site protocols, and post-event content to shape best practices among recreational athletes.
As AirAsia HYROX Jakarta 2026 approaches, the partnership signals a broader thesis: when events, brands, and public institutions align around athlete experience—from start line to recovery—the result is not just a race weekend, but the scaffolding for a stronger national fitness culture.
